Given 60kgs topweight, the three-year-old settled midfield albeit trapped three wide after starting from barrier 13, before starting to reel in the pack as they were nearing the turn.

Peecee Pussycat let down late to hold off the handy local runner Judy’s Song carrying two and half kilograms less by a head and claim his second win from eight starts.

“Wow that was great - he still has so much more to learn,” rider Sam Spratt said while dismounting.

The son of Group One winning stallion Pure Champion had two close seconds in his previous starts after a comfortable win at Matamata in March.

“He is a horse that would be a major treat in the Hong Kong Derby and major races in Australia,” Cambridge trainer John Bell said.

The win was the second of the day for Bell, after Palm Springs won fresh-up in the first on the card.
