Saf Cowan

Saf Cown is a 15 yr old student at Cambridge High School and has been riding for 4 years. She has three horses and the horse she is riding today is called jimmy, an ex- racehorse. Saf was born in Australia but moved to New Zealand at the beginning of 2019 and she comes from a long line of racing family members. Saf’s father Bart is the track manager at Te Rapa race course and her grandparents Leo and Jenny Cowan have been successful trainers, training the likes of Clean Cut, New Diamond, Indian Chant and Light Opera. In the future Saf aims to begin producing off the track race horses, like Jimmy and to work on competing with her other two ponies as well as continuing to hone her trackwork skills. Saf is riding in her grandparent’s colours today (emerald green with a pink Maltese cross and pink arm bands).

Mei Chin

Mei Chin is an 11 yr old student at Cambridge Middle School. She is riding the 6 year old pony Callie who she has had since she was broken in. They have built up a successful partnership and have had much success in show hunter and eventing. They represented Waikato in the Timberlands North Island eventing champs earlier this year. Mei is also involved in Kidz Kartz (basically harness racing for ponies) and her grandfather is well known owner/trainer/driver Dr Luk Chin. Mei is wearing Luk’s racing colours today.

Well known Cambridge horsewoman Kara Waters (herself a successful ex jumps jockey) has very generously given Sophie the ride on her beautiful Chico who Sophie is riding today. Chico is a 12 year old skewbald gelding who has competed successfully prior to Sophie taking on the ride. This is Sophies first hack and she is looking forward to eventing Chico this season at 1.05m level.
